Finding Cheap Scrapbooking Supplies

If you’ve been scrapbooking for any length of time, it’s likely you’ve become amazed at the far-flung array of scrapbooking supplies available. There are supplies to create just about anything you can imagine for your scrapbooks. It becomes a very good idea to browse around and get an idea of just what’s available, as you lay out a new page, and then gather the new bits and pieces before you start the actual project.

At this point it is a good idea to start fine-tuning exactly what you do and don’t want in your scrapbook, so you don’t end up spending money on a bunch of stuff you actually don’t need. Make a list of exactly what you want before you start shopping, then stick to your list! If not, you may find yourself spending a substantial amount of money.

You may have found already your new-found passion can get pretty expensive. It’s a good idea to get creative with finding ways to save money on all the cool supplies that are available. Buying discount scrapbooking supplies at ‘wholesale prices’ is the ideal thing to do. Specifically we’re not talking about actual ‘wholesale’ (unless you are a retail distributor), but finding discounted supplies through alternative means, and coming up with creative ways to utilize what supplies you have on hand already.

One very good way to buy discounted supplies, and most obviously, is to buy only when the items you want are on sale, or to get in the habit of buying only from the bargains bin. In developing this habit you are only buying items only when they become affordable. Also keep your eyes peeled for ‘off season’ supplies, such as for halloween scrapbooking, valentine’s day scrapbooking, Christmas scrapbooking, etc. You can eventually build up an impressive collection of scrapbooking goodies relatively inexpensively.

Consider also buying in bulk. Some folks feel they can never have too much scrapbook supplies. However you may be concerned about gathering a bunch of stuff you don’t like and won’t ever use. This leads to the next tactic- have a bin for all the supplies and items you’ve collected that you don’t want. When you get together with your scrapbooking friends (consider joining a scrapbooking group or club) bring your bin. Encourage your friends to do the same. This can become a fun activity in itself, what you may consider a waste may be your friend’s delight, and vice versa.

This will open up a whole new source of ‘discount’ scrapbooking supplies!

  • Chris from Digital Photo Book:

I’m glad you emphasized finding discounted supplies rather than just cheap supplies. I know what brands I like in supplies, and I keep an eye on the main online stores to see who’s having a sale.

  • Susan from weight loss tips:

Great discounted price for scrapbooking, as you know, its very expensive when you buy it at the store. I started my scrapbook and still haven’t finished it because the supplies are so expensive.

  • Scrap booking can become a VERY expensive hobby. Over the years I do not want to think what I have spent on accessories. I find looking for bargains really helps keep the costs down, as you have suggested in your article. Another thing that really helps is keeping an eye out for things that may come in useful, such as when receiving a present, could you reuse the ribbon, wrapping or card?
Also keep an eye out for passages or pictures in a newspaper of magazine which may be of some interest for your next scrap booking project.
    Every penny saved always helps!
